The incident took place on Friday evening in the Irumbupalam area near Adimali. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation.

Incident Took Place Around 7:30 PM

According to police, the incident occurred at around 7:30 PM on Friday. The children, identified as Ihan and Rihan, were the twin sons of Afsal and Sandra, residents of Ozhuvathadam in the Mannamkandam area of Adimali. Preliminary information suggests that the two children accidentally consumed a liquid kept inside the house.

Children Rushed to Hospital

The children’s condition deteriorated after they reportedly consumed the liquid. Family members and neighbours immediately rushed them to nearby hospitals for treatment. Ihan was admitted to Adimali Taluk Hospital, where he died at around 9 PM. Rihan was taken to Morning Star Medical Centre in Adimali, but he also died at around 10:30 PM.

Father Suspects Paint Thinner

The children’s father, Afsal, told police that he suspected the twins had accidentally consumed paint thinner kept inside the house. However, police have not yet confirmed that the substance was paint thinner. Investigators are also considering the possibility that the children may have consumed another chemical substance.

Agricultural Chemical Also Under Investigation

Police are also investigating whether the liquid found on the floor could have been a chemical used for agricultural purposes. The exact cause of the deaths can only be established after the suspected substance is examined. Police have sealed the house to preserve evidence and have initiated a detailed forensic investigation.

Bodies Kept at Government Hospital

The bodies of both children have been kept at the government taluk hospital in Adimali. According to police, the bodies will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem examinations. The post-mortem and forensic reports are expected to help determine the exact cause of death.

Case Registered Under BNSS Section 194

Adimali police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in connection with the deaths. Police are investigating all aspects of the incident and trying to determine how the suspected chemical came within the children’s reach.

Incident Raises Child Safety Concerns

The tragedy highlights the importance of keeping chemicals, paint thinners, pesticides and other potentially toxic substances safely out of children’s reach. The exact circumstances surrounding the Idukki incident will become clear only after the police investigation, forensic examination and post-mortem reports are completed.
